Current Pro Baseball Players from Wyoming (MLB 2023)

Baseball Players, and athletes of all sports really, take pride in where they’re from. Whether it’s the state, city or area code – you always notice players wanting to rep their home area.

Fans tend to do the same thing. It’s always more fun to pull for a player when they’re from your home state (or even your hometown), especially when that player also happens to be playing on your favorite team.

With all that in mind, we went through MLB.com and pulled the home states (or countries) of every player on the 40-man rosters for each team.

We only found 1 player from the state of Wyoming which obviously isn’t a ton, but it’s still tied with 5 other states who also had one (Montana, Idaho, New Hampshire, Rhode Island & West Virginia) and more than 4 other states that don’t currently have any.

Here is a little more background info on the MLB Player from the state of Wyoming:

Brandon Ninmo

Brandon Nimmo, born in Cheyenne, Wyoming, comes from a state more known for its rugged landscapes than for baseball. Nimmo’s journey is unique as Wyoming does not have high school baseball due to its harsh weather and low population.

Instead, he honed his skills playing American Legion Baseball, where he stood out for his exceptional talent. His unusual path to professional baseball caught the attention of scouts, and he became the highest-drafted player ever from Wyoming when he was selected in the first round of the MLB Draft.

Nimmo’s rise from Cheyenne to the major leagues is a testament to his determination and skill in a sport that he couldn’t play at the high school level in his home state.

Known for his positive demeanor, strong work ethic, and on-base ability, Nimmo has defied the odds to become a successful pro baseball player.

BASEBALL STATE fun facts

In case you’re wondering, here are the four states that aren’t represented on current MLB rosters: Alaska, South Dakota, Maine and Vermont.

Honestly, that shouldn’t be too surprising. A combination of cold weather and small population sizes both contribute to those states being left out. Also, pretty much the same reason Wyoming only has one.

On the other end of the spectrum, the state of California, far and away, has the most current baseball players of any state with 189.

Second most was Florida with 89, followed by Texas (78), Georgia (40) and New York with 38.

The Dominican Republic has 120 players currently in major league baseball which is incredibly impressive considering the country has a total population of only 11 million people. By comparison, the state of California has a population of 39 million and the state of Florida has a population of almost 22 million.
