Average Height of NFL Cornerbacks

Average Height of NFL Cornerbacks in 2024

In the NFL, where every inch and pound can make a difference, the physical attributes of players often become a topic of keen interest. Every season, one particular question always seems to come up: “How tall are the guys guarding the end zones?”

Yes, we’re talking about the cornerbacks, the unsung heroes whose height can often be as crucial as their speed and agility.

For this deep dive, I examined the heights and weights of almost 200 cornerbacks on opening-day rosters for the 2023 season. Buckle up as we measure up the situation, and maybe even debunk a myth or two along the way. Get ready for an eye-level view of the NFL’s aerial defenders!

NFL CB Avg Height

The average height of an NFL Cornerback in 2023 is 6’0″.

However, averages don’t often tell the whole story. For instance, there is a huge gap between the shortest and tallest cornerbacks. I wanted to take a closer look.

So, in an effort to give you an even better idea of how NFL Cornerbacks stack up, I tallied up how many players are at each specific height – from 5’8″ all the way to 6’4″.

Cornerback Height Scale

HeightNumber of Players
5’8″2
5’9″13
5’10”23
5’11”39
6’0″41
6’1″43
6’2″20
6’3″6
6’4″2

This table provides some interesting insight into the cornerback position.

For starters, even though the average height for a corner is 6’0″, there are actually more CBs who are 6’1″ than any other height.

And, while Wide Receivers have a large, relatively evenly spread out range of heights, corners do not appear to have that luxury. Over half, 65% to be exact, of cornerbacks fall in a very tight window ranging from 5’11” to 6’1″.

Which NFL Cornerbacks are the Tallest?

Curious to know who the guys are at the bottom of the table above? Thought you might.

Which NFL Cornerbacks are the Shortest?

Just as interesting (or maybe even more so) as which guys are the tallest is which players are actually the shortest.

The 15 shortest cornerbacks in the NFL are all 5”9″ or shorter.

Conclusion

In conclusion, we’ve seen that while the average height hovers around 6’0″, the position isn’t just a tall man’s game. The towering presence of players like 6’4″ Tariq Woolen and the nimble agility of 5’8″ Khalil Dorsey remind us that in football, it’s not just about how high you stand, but how effectively you play the game.

Whether they’re reaching sky-high for an interception or staying low to the ground to tackle a swift receiver, NFL cornerbacks continue to demonstrate that size is just a number (at least to a certain extent!).

So, as we wrap up this season’s analysis, let’s remember: in the grand chess game of football, it’s how you move your pieces, not just the size of them, that often leads to victory.
