Dexter Fowler has previously been the most popular choice for an Astros / Rockies square.

Rare Choices

Most fans will probably remember the following players for one team, but most likely not the other. Here are some good opportunities for low rarity scores.

Vinny Castilla

Vinny Castilla, a Mexican-born third baseman, was a key figure in Major League Baseball from 1991 to 2006. He spent most of his career with the Colorado Rockies during the ’90s, where he shone as part of the famed “Blake Street Bombers.”

Castilla was known for his power at the plate, smashing over 300 home runs in his career, including three seasons with 40 or more. He was a two-time All-Star and a three-time Silver Slugger winner (all with the Rockies), finishing with a .276 career batting average.

Despite his power stats being somewhat influenced by Coors Field, Castilla’s ability to deliver clutch hits solidified his reputation as a top slugger in his era.

Mike Hampton

Mike Hampton was a notable left-handed pitcher in Major League Baseball from 1993 to 2010, best known for his stints with the Houston Astros and the Atlanta Braves.

Hampton was a two-time All-Star (Astros, Rockies) and a 5x winner of the Silver Slugger award for pitchers (Astros, Mets, Rockies, Braves). With a win-loss record of 148-115 and an ERA of 4.06, he demonstrated his pitching prowess consistently.

In addition to his pitching skills, Hampton was also known for his batting, boasting a .246 career batting average and hitting 16 home runs, both exceptional numbers for a pitcher.

Roy Oswalt

Roy Oswalt, who pitched from 2001 to 2013, is best known for his time with the Houston Astros, but also played for the Phillies, Rangers and Rockies at the back end of his career.

Oswalt was a dominant force on the mound, racking up over 160 wins and nearly 2,000 strikeouts in his career. Oswalt’s best season arguably came in 2004 (Astros) when he had a record of 20-10 with a 3.49 ERA and 206 strikeouts.

He was a three-time All-Star (Astros) and won the 2005 National League Championship Series MVP, leading the Astros to their first-ever World Series appearance.

Will Harris

Will Harris, an American right-handed relief pitcher, had a ten-year career in the majors. Making his debut in 2012 with the Colorado Rockies, Harris has also pitched for the Arizona Diamondbacks, Houston Astros, and Washington Nationals.

Known for his excellent cutter and curveball, Harris was particularly effective against right-handed hitters. He had an outstanding season in 2016 with the Astros, recording a 2.25 ERA over 64 innings, which earned him a spot in the 2016 All-Star Game. One of the highlights of his career was helping the Astros win the World Series in 2017.

Preston Wilson

Preston Wilson is a Center Fielder who played in the majors from 1998 to 2007 who was a solid player for most of his career. However, he had one amazing season in 2003 with the Rockies when he led the National League in RBIs with 141, making his lone All-Star game that year.

Thanks to a late-season trade he also won a World Series with the Cardinals in 2006.

Preston played for 6 different teams over his 10-year career including the Marlins, Rockies, Cardinals, Mets, Nationals and Astros.
