Current Pro Baseball Players from New Hampshire (MLB 2023)

Baseball Players, and athletes of all sports really, take pride in where they’re from. Whether it’s the state, city or area code – you always notice players wanting to rep their home area.

Fans tend to do the same thing. It’s always more fun to pull for a player when they’re from your home state (or even your hometown), especially when that player also happens to be playing on your favorite team.

With all that in mind, we went through MLB.com and pulled the home states (or countries) of every player on the 40-man rosters for each team.

We only found 1 player from the state of New Hampshire which obviously isn’t a ton, but it’s still tied with 5 other states who also had one (Montana, Idaho, Rhode Island, West Virginia & Wyoming) and more than 4 other states that don’t currently have any.

Here is a little more info on the lone player repping the state of New Hampshire:

Ian Hamilton

Hometown: Dover, New Hampshire

Ian Hamilton, a native of Dover, New Hampshire, has carved out a role as a promising relief pitcher in Major League Baseball. Hamilton’s baseball journey began at Dover High School, where he first demonstrated his pitching talent.

He then honed his skills at Washington State University, showcasing a powerful arm and effective pitching style. Drafted in the 11th round of the 2016 MLB Draft by the Chicago White Sox, Hamilton quickly moved through the minor leagues thanks to his impressive fastball and solid secondary pitches.

Making his MLB debut in 2018, Hamilton has shown potential in his limited appearances in the majors. Despite facing setbacks, including injuries, his performance when on the mound has highlighted his ability to contribute effectively in high-leverage situations, showcasing the resilience and skill developed from his roots in New Hampshire.

BASEBALL STATE fun facts

In case you’re wondering, here are the four states that aren’t represented on current MLB rosters: Alaska, South Dakota, Maine and Vermont.

Honestly, that shouldn’t be too surprising. A combination of cold weather and small population sizes both contribute to those states being left out. Also, pretty much the same reason New Hampshire only has one.

On the other end of the spectrum, the state of California, far and away, has the most current baseball players of any state with 189.

Second most was Florida with 89, followed by Texas (78), New York (42) and Georgia (40).

The Dominican Republic has 120 players currently in major league baseball which is incredibly impressive considering the country has a total population of only 11 million people. By comparison, the state of California has a population of 39 million and the state of Florida has a population of almost 22 million.
