6 Football Players who Played for Patriots and Lions

I’ve done some research and have found players who played for both the Patriots and the Lions.

Danny Amendola

Danny Amendola, a wide receiver and return specialist, had a career in the NFL that spanned from 2009 to 2021. He began as an undrafted free agent with the Dallas Cowboys, but rose to fame with the New England Patriots (2013-2017), winning two Super Bowl titles with them.

Amendola also had stints with the St. Louis Rams, Miami Dolphins, Detroit Lions, and Houston Texans.

Over his career, Amendola recorded over 617 receptions for more than 6000 yards, with 24 receiving touchdowns. He also contributed to special teams with 1860 punt return yards and 3590 kick return yards.

Matt Cassel

Quarterback Matt Cassel had a significant 14-year NFL career from 2005 to 2018, the pinnacle of which came as he filled in for an injured Tom Brady in 2008 and led the New England Patriots to an 11-5 season.

Cassel, a seventh-round draft pick, went on to have a Pro Bowl season with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2010, throwing for 3116 yards and 27 touchdowns.

Throughout his career, he played for various teams (7 in total) and was often brought in as a solid backup option. Cassel accumulated over 17,500 passing yards and 104 touchdowns in his career, showing durability and readiness when called upon.

Damien Woody is a two-time Super Bowl Champion and Pro Bowler (Patriots) who enjoyed a productive career as an offensive lineman in the NFL. After a standout career at Boston College, he was selected 17th overall in the 1999 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots.

In New England, he played a crucial role in protecting quarterback Tom Brady, winning two Super Bowls (XXXVI and XXXVIII) with the team. Woody played center for the Patriots, then transitioned to right tackle when he joined the Detroit Lions in 2004, demonstrating his versatility on the offensive line.

He concluded his playing career with the New York Jets from 2008 to 2010. Since retiring from football, he has established himself as a respected analyst for ESPN.

Jamie Collins

Jamie Collins, a linebacker in the NFL, has carved out a noteworthy career since being drafted in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots.

A product of Southern Mississippi, Collins made an immediate impact on the Patriots’ defense, earning a Pro Bowl selection in 2015 and contributing to a Super Bowl win in the 2014 season.

To date, Collins has accumulated 26.5 sacks, 12 interceptions, 19 forced fumbles and has 2 defensive touchdowns.

Mohamed Sanu

Mohamed Sanu was selected in the third round, 83rd overall, by the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2012 NFL Draft. He played as a wide receiver, making a name for himself with his versatility and ability to contribute in a variety of roles.

Sanu spent four seasons with the Bengals before signing with the Atlanta Falcons in 2016. During his time in Atlanta, he emerged as a key part of the offense, helping the Falcons reach Super Bowl LI in the 2016 season.

Over the course of his career, Sanu played with several other teams, including the Patriots and 49ers. His career stats include over 400 receptions, nearly 5,000 receiving yards, and 27 touchdown catches. In addition to playing receiver, Sanu also became known for his abilities as a passer, completing several trick-play passes for touchdowns.

David Richards

David Richards was selected in the 4th round, 99th overall, by the San Diego Chargers in the 1988 NFL Draft. Richards spent a total of 9 seasons in the league, playing for multiple teams including the Chargers, Atlanta Falcons, Dallas Cowboys and New England Patriots.

During his career, Richards started 128 games including all 16 games in each of the 5 seasons he played in San Diego.

While not achieving any major individual awards, he contributed to the success of the offenses he was part of, particularly in the running game. His experience in the league, playing at both guard and tackle positions, allowed him to provide stability and versatility to the teams he played for.
