I’ve already done the research and have put together a list of well-known stars along with some more “under-the-radar” players that could land you a low rarity score.

Jaromir Jagr

Jaromír Jagr was drafted 5th overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 1990 NHL Entry Draft, Jagr swiftly made an impression. Alongside center Mario Lemieux, Jagr played a pivotal role in back-to-back Stanley Cup championships for the Penguins in 1991 and 1992. His time with Pittsburgh also included multiple scoring titles and an MVP.

Jagr’s NHL journey included playing for several teams such as the Capitals, Rangers, Flyers, Stars, Bruins, Devils, Panthers, and Flames. Across these stints, his scoring touch and on-ice intelligence never waned. Jagr finished his career ranked second in NHL all-time points (1921), behind only Wayne Gretzky.

But Jagr’s contributions to the game extend beyond the NHL. He has been an essential figure for the Czech national team, securing a gold medal in the 1998 Winter Olympics and multiple World Championships.

James van Riemsdyk

James van Riemsdyk, an American-born player, has had a solid career in the NHL, primarily known for his scoring ability and presence in front of the net. Selected second overall by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, van Riemsdyk has established himself as a consistent offensive contributor throughout his career.

His size and skillset, particularly his ability to use his body to shield the puck and his prowess in scoring from close range, made him a significant offensive threat. After several seasons with the Flyers, van Riemsdyk was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs, where he was often among the team’s top goal scorers.

Later, van Riemsdyk returned to the Flyers, where he continued to be a key offensive player. After a few seasons with the Flyers, he signed a one year contract with the Bruins for the 2023-24 season.

Nate Thompson

Nate Thompson is an American former professional ice hockey forward with a diverse NHL career. Drafted by the Boston Bruins in the sixth round of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, Thompson’s professional journey began with major junior hockey for the WHL’s Seattle Thunderbirds before moving to the Bruins’ AHL affiliate, the Providence Bruins​​​​.

Thompson’s NHL debut came in the 2006–07 season with the Bruins, but he spent the majority of that season in the AHL. In 2008 he was claimed off waivers by the Islanders and, despite a series of injuries, he scored his first NHL goal. In the 2009–10 season, Thompson moved to the Lightning, where he achieved career-highs in goals, assists, and points.

After his time with the Lightning, Thompson spent the next 8 seasons bouncing around quite a few different teams including the Ducks, Senators, Kings, Canadiens, Flyers, Jets, and finally, the Flyers again.

Sean O’Donnell

Sean O’Donnell is a Canadian former defenseman who had a distinguished NHL career spanning 17 seasons. Drafted 123rd overall by the Buffalo Sabres in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft, O’Donnell began his NHL journey with the Los Angeles Kings, making his debut in the 1994–95 season and becoming a full-time NHL player thereafter​​.

O’Donnell’s career saw him play for several teams, including the Minnesota Wild, where he was the franchise’s first captain, the New Jersey Devils, Boston Bruins, Phoenix Coyotes, and the Anaheim Ducks, with whom he won the Stanley Cup in 2007.

After another season with the Ducks and a return to the Kings, he reached the milestone of 1,000 NHL games. O’Donnell concluded his career with stints at the Philadelphia Flyers and the Chicago Blackhawks, retiring in 2013 after an illustrious and lengthy tenure in the league​​​​​​.

Gord Murphy

Gord Murphy, a retired Canadian defenseman, began his NHL career after being drafted in the ninth round, 189th overall, by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 1985 NHL Entry Draft. Following three seasons in the Ontario Hockey League with the Oshawa Generals, Murphy debuted professionally with the Flyers’ AHL affiliate, the Hershey Bears, in the 1987-88 season.

He then joined the Flyers in the 1988-89 season. After over three seasons in Philadelphia, Murphy was traded to the Boston Bruins. He was later picked by the Florida Panthers in the 1993 NHL Expansion Draft, where he played for six seasons before being traded to the Atlanta Thrashers in the 1999 NHL Expansion Draft.

Over the course of his NHL career, Murphy played in 863 games, scoring 85 goals and adding 238 assists. He also appeared in 53 Stanley Cup playoff games, contributing three goals and 16 assists. Murphy was also part of the 1996 Florida Panthers team that won the Eastern Conference before losing in the Stanley Cup Finals.
