Average Weight of NFL Centers (2024)

In the National Football League, where every yard and every second counts, the role of the center is often unsung yet undeniably crucial. It’s time to shed light on these pivotal players – specifically, their average size.

Far from being just another number, the average weight of NFL centers is a fascinating lens through which we can explore the evolving nature of football strategy, player conditioning, and the sheer physicality of the sport.

I examined the heights and weights of the almost 50 centers on opening-day rosters for the 2023 season. Buckle up, football fans, as we take a closer look at the NFL’s hefty heroes!

NFL C Avg Weight

The average weight of an NFL center in 2023 is 308 pounds.

While the overall average provides a useful baseline, it doesn’t necessarily capture the diversity in the weights of NFL centers, who range significantly from the lightest at 293 pounds to the heftiest at 335 pounds.

To offer a more detailed perspective, we’ve segmented the players into 10-pound weight brackets and quantified the number of centers within each range.

This approach allows us to present a clearer and more nuanced understanding of the weight distribution across the position, highlighting the varied physical profiles these athletes bring to the field.

290 – 2995
300 – 30920
310 – 31916
320 – 3294
330 – 3391

By breaking the numbers down like this we can see that the overall average of 308 is actually an excellent representation of the position.

While there is a good size overall range of weights for centers, the large majority of players (78%) fall into a very tight 20-pound window from 300 to 319.
