Average Weight of NFL Offensive Tackles in 2023
In the NFL, the offensive tackle is a position of sheer power and imposing physicality. Much like their towering height, the weight of these athletes is a critical factor in their ability to dominate on the field.
But how much do these gridiron giants actually weigh in 2023?
For this deep dive, I examined the heights and weights of over 140 offensive tackles on opening-day rosters for the 2023 season. Strap on your helmet and get ready for a heavyweight journey into the heart of the NFL’s front line.
NFL OT Avg Weight
The average weight of an NFL offensive tackle in 2023 is 317 pounds.
However, the overall average doesn’t always give a clear picture. Especially when you consider that Tackles range in weight from the lightest guy at 280 all the way up to 380 pounds!
So, in an effort to give you an even better idea of where NFL Offensive Tackles weigh in, we broke the position down into 10-pound increments and tallied up how many players fell into each section.
Offensive Tackle Weight Scale
Weight Range | Number of Players |
---|---|
280 – 289 | 3 |
290 – 299 | 1 |
300 – 309 | 37 |
310 – 319 | 50 |
320 – 329 | 37 |
330 – 339 | 8 |
340 – 349 | 3 |
350 – 359 | 0 |
360 – 369 | 2 |
370 – 379 | 3 |
380 – 389 | 1 |
By breaking the numbers down like this we can see that in addition to 317 being the average weight for an OT, 124 out of 145 (86%) offensive tackles fall in a relatively tight window from 300 to 329.
In fact, the manner in which the number skyrockets from only one guy in the 290s to 37 just over 300 pounds makes me wonder how many guys have a minimum weight of 300 written into their contract.
