Popular Choices

Gary Sheffield

Gary Sheffield was a beast on the baseball field and is a beast on the Immaculate Grid. He played from 1988 to 2009, suiting up for eight different teams – Marlins, Dodgers, Brewers, Yankees, Braves, Padres, Tigers and Mets.

Sheffield helped the Marlins snag a World Series Championship in ’97. Over his career, he cranked out 509 home runs (one of 28 players who hit over 500) and had a solid .292 batting average.

Sheffield was a nine-time All-Star, but his multiple stops along his career are what makes him really stand out for this particular game.

Omar Infante

Omar Infante made his MLB debut in 2002 with the Detroit Tigers, where he spent the early part of his career. Over the years, he played for various teams including the Atlanta Braves, Florida/Miami Marlins, Detroit Tigers (in a second stint), and Kansas City Royals.

One of the highlights of Infante’s career came while he was with the Kansas City Royals. He was a member of the Royals team that won the World Series in 2015, securing the championship by defeating the New York Mets.

Throughout his career, Infante was known for his solid defense, his ability to make contact at the plate, and his overall consistency. Outside of MLB, he also represented Venezuela in international competitions, including the World Baseball Classic.

Rare Choices

Steve Avery

Steve Avery was a left-handed pitcher in Major League Baseball who shined particularly during his early career with the Atlanta Braves from 1990 to 1996. A first-round draft pick, Avery quickly made a name for himself, playing a key role in the Braves’ rotation alongside greats like Tom Glavine and Greg Maddux.

At the age of 21, he was named the 1991 NLCS MVP after pitching 16.1 scoreless innings, which was crucial in leading the Braves to the World Series. Though his career took a downward turn due to arm injuries after his impressive early years, Avery still posted a career record of 96 wins and 83 losses with 980 strikeouts.

His strong performances in the postseason, including an excellent 2.90 ERA in 18 games, cemented his reputation as a formidable big-game pitcher.
