7 Baseball Players who Played for Red Sox and Mariners

There is a good chance that if you’ve found this page then you’re playing the Immaculate Grid.

That also means that today’s grid has asked for players that have played for both the Boston Red Sox and the Seattle Mariners.

And, it also means that you’re probably stuck on this particular box and you’re looking for a little help. Sound about right so far?

Well, good news, you’re in the right place.

I’ve done some research and have found players who played for both the Red Sox and the Mariners.

Jason Bay

Jason Bay, a Canadian-born outfielder, had a successful career in Major League Baseball from 2003 to 2013. Notably, Bay had successful stints with the Boston Red Sox and Pittsburgh Pirates, where he showed his power at the plate.

Bay kicked off his career with a bang, winning the National League Rookie of the Year award in 2004 while playing for the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was selected to the All-Star team three times (Pirates, Red Sox) and hit over 200 home runs in his career.

Adrian Beltre

Adrian Beltre, a standout third baseman, played in Major League Baseball from 1998 to 2018, spending the majority of his career with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Seattle Mariners, and Texas Rangers.

Known for his exceptional fielding and power at the plate, Beltre earned 5 Gold Glove Awards and hit 30 or more home runs in 5 seasons. He was named an All-Star 4 times and won 2 Platinum Glove Awards.

Beltre finished his career with impressive offensive numbers, hitting .286 with 3166 hits, 477 home runs, and 1707 RBIs. He reached the milestone of 3000 hits in 2017, solidifying his status as one of the game’s all-time greats.

Beltre Key Stats

  • All-Star (Red Sox, Rangers)
  • Gold Glove (Mariners, Rangers)
  • Silver Slugger (Dodgers, Red Sox, Rangers)
  • 40+ Home Run Season (Dodgers)
  • 100+ RBI Season (Dodgers, Red Sox, Rangers)
  • 3000+ Career Hits (Dodgers, Mariners, Red Sox, Rangers)
  • 200+ Hit Season (Dodgers)

James Paxton

James Paxton, known as “The Big Maple” because of his Canadian heritage, has been a strong presence on the pitcher’s mound since his MLB debut in 2013.

The left-handed starting pitcher initially spent six seasons with the Seattle Mariners where he quickly became a key part of the rotation, highlighted by a no-hitter against the Toronto Blue Jays in 2018, becoming the first Canadian to throw a no-hitter since 1945 and the second-ever to do so on Canadian soil.

Since Seattle, he’s bounced around with a few teams including the Yankees, then back to Seattle and now the Red Sox.

Mike Cameron

Mike Cameron, an exceptional center fielder, is known for his defensive prowess, speedy base running, and notable power. He played from 1995 until 2011, contributing to eight different teams, including the Seattle Mariners and the New York Mets.

Cameron racked up 278 home runs and 968 RBIs over his 17-year career, while maintaining a batting average of .249. He was selected as an All-Star once, and his exceptional fielding earned him three Gold Glove Awards.

One of his career highlights was on May 2, 2002, when he hit four home runs in a single game, a rare accomplishment in MLB history.

Cameron Key Stats

  • All-Star (Mariners)
  • Gold Glove (Mariners, Padres)
  • 100+ RBIs (Mariners)

Rickey Henderson

Rickey Henderson was one of my favorite baseball players growing up. In fact, somewhere in a closet, I have a baseball card binder with over 150 Rickey Henderson baseball cards.

Most of us probably remember Henderson as an Oakland A, back in the late 80s playing on the same A’s teams as the Bash Brothers.

But, he played for an incredible 25 years in the majors and played on 9 different teams during that span.

Rickey played 14 years with the A’s, but he also played for the New York Yankees, San Diego Padres, New York Mets, Boston Red Sox, LA Dodgers, Anaheim Angels, Seattle Mariners and Toronto Blue Jays.

So, not only is he an acceptable answer for a player who played for both the Red Sox and the Mariners, but Rickey Henderson is a very versatile Immaculate Grid answer that you can use quite often.

In fact, he also had over 1400 career stolen bases, over 2200 runs and over 3000 hits (all of which could appear as possible categories).

Jamie Moyer

Jamie Moyer was a steady pitcher in baseball for an impressive stretch from 1986 to 2012. He made a name for himself with teams like the Mariners and Phillies, but also had stops with the Cubs, Orioles, Rangers, Rockies, Cardinals and Red Sox.

Over his career, he snagged over 260 wins, proving that you don’t need a blazing fastball to get the job done. Moyer was an All-Star once and was also a big part of the Phillies’ World Series win in 2008.

What’s really cool about him is that he pitched in the majors until he was 49, which is just amazing.

Heathcliff Slocumb

You may remember Heathcliff Slocumb as a relief pitcher with the Phillies and Red Sox in the 90s, but he was a bit of a journeyman playing for 8 teams over the course of 10 years. (Cubs, Phillies, Cardinals, Red Sox, Mariners, Padres, Indians (now Guardians), Orioles)

He was a solid reliever with some good seasons and even an all-star appearance while with the Phillies in 1995.

However, he might be best known in baseball lore for being traded from the Red Sox to the Mariners in 1997 for Derek Lowe and Jason Varitek, a deal that later appeared very lopsided in Boston’s favor.
