Baseball Players who Played for Reds and Mets

I’ve done some research and have found players who played for both the Reds and the Mets.

Matt Harvey

Matt Harvey, a right-handed pitcher who played 9 years in the league – mostly with the New York Mets – is known for his early career dominance and his struggles with injuries.

During his peak, he was referred to as the “Dark Knight,” delivering All-Star performances and helping the Mets reach the 2015 World Series.

Over his career, Harvey recorded over 800 strikeouts with an ERA of around 4.00. His best season came in 2013 when he posted a 2.27 ERA and struck out 191 batters in 178 innings, earning an All-Star selection (Mets).

Aaron Harang

Aaron Harang is best known for his time with the Reds but had the kind of journeyman career that makes him a beast for the Immaculate Grid. Harang played for 8 different teams over his 14-year career – 6 of them for only a year (or less).

Harang was a workhorse on the mound, accumulating over 100 wins and more than 1,800 strikeouts in his career. His best years were with the Reds in 2006 and 2007 – finishing 4th in Cy Young voting in ’07.

Frank Viola

Frank Viola, also known by his nickname “Sweet Music”, had a 15-year career in Major League Baseball, primarily as a starting pitcher. He began his career with the Minnesota Twins in 1982, and played with them until 1989. He then played for the Mets, Red Sox, Reds, and Blue Jays.

During his career, Viola recorded a win-loss record of 176-150, an earned run average (ERA) of 3.73, and struck out 1844 batters.

One of the highlights of his career came in 1987 when he led the Twins to a World Series victory and was named the World Series Most Valuable Player (MVP). He also won the Cy Young Award in 1988.
