That also means that today’s grid has asked for players that have played for both the New England Patriots and San Francisco 49ers.

And, it also means that you’re probably stuck on this particular box and you’re looking for a little help. Sound about right so far?

Well, good news, you’re in the right place.

I’ve done some research and have found players who played for both the Patriots and the 49ers.

Jimmy Garoppolo

After playing college football at Eastern Illinois, Jimmy Garoppolo was selected by the Patriots in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft. Garoppolo served as the backup to legendary quarterback Tom Brady for the majority of his tenure in New England.

While in this role, he had limited starts but showcased potential as a starting-caliber quarterback whenever he got the opportunity. His time in New England was highlighted by two Super Bowl victories, although he played a supporting role.

In 2017, the Patriots traded Garoppolo to the 49ers, where he quickly assumed the role of starting quarterback. In his first full season as a starter (due to injuries) for the 49ers in 2019, Garoppolo led the team to a Super Bowl appearance, showcasing his ability to lead an offense at the highest level.

His 1998 rookie season with the Vikings set a record with 17 touchdown receptions. A record Moss broke again in 2007 with 23 touchdown catches for the Patriots.

A six-time Pro Bowler and four-time First-Team All-Pro, he accumulated 982 receptions for 15,292 yards and 156 touchdowns in his career. Moss was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2018.

Brian Hoyer

Brian Hoyer is a veteran quarterback who has primarily been a backup with multiple NFL teams. He entered the league undrafted in 2009 and signed with the New England Patriots, backing up Tom Brady and earning a Super Bowl ring with the team in Super Bowl XLIX.

Hoyer has also started for several teams, including the Cleveland Browns (his lone 3000+ Yard Passing Season was there), Houston Texans, Chicago Bears, and San Francisco 49ers, with career passing stats including over 10,000 yards, 53 touchdowns, and a passer rating in the mid-80s.

Mohamed Sanu

Mohamed Sanu was selected in the third round, 83rd overall, by the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2012 NFL Draft. He played as a wide receiver, making a name for himself with his versatility and ability to contribute in a variety of roles.

Sanu spent four seasons with the Bengals before signing with the Atlanta Falcons in 2016. During his time in Atlanta, he emerged as a key part of the offense, helping the Falcons reach Super Bowl LI in the 2016 season.

Over the course of his career, Sanu played with several other teams, including the Patriots and 49ers. His career stats include over 400 receptions, nearly 5,000 receiving yards, and 27 touchdown catches. In addition to playing receiver, Sanu also became known for his abilities as a passer, completing several trick-play passes for touchdowns.

JJ Stokes

J.J. Stokes was selected in the first round, 10th overall, by the San Francisco 49ers in the 1995 NFL Draft. He spent the majority of his career with the 49ers, playing for the team from 1995 to 2002. After leaving San Francisco, he had short stints with the Jacksonville Jaguars and the New England Patriots before retiring.

Stokes was a solid contributor to some competitive 49ers teams. His most productive season came in 1998 when he caught 63 passes for 770 yards and 8 touchdowns. In 2003, he picked up a Super Bowl ring playing in a limited role with the Patriots.

Although Stokes was never the star receiver that some expected him to be coming out of college, he did manage to carve out a respectable NFL career.
