Baseball Players who Played for Phillies and Tigers

There is a good chance that if you’ve found this page then you’re playing the Immaculate Grid.

That also means that today’s grid has asked for players that have played for both the Philadelphia Phillies and Detroit Tigers.

And, it also means that you’re probably stuck on this particular box and you’re looking for a little help. Sound about right so far?

Well, good news, you’re in the right place.

I’ve done some research and have found players who played for both the Phillies and the Tigers.

Placido Polanco

Placido Polanco, an infielder known for his versatility and defensive prowess, had a solid Major League Baseball career from 1998 to 2013. Polanco, who played for teams such as the St. Louis Cardinals, Philadelphia Phillies, and Detroit Tigers, was a two-time All-Star (Tigers, Phillies) and three-time Gold Glove winner (Tigers, Phillies).

He was recognized as an exceptional contact hitter, finishing his career with over 2100 hits and a batting average of .297. In 2006, Polanco was named the ALCS MVP, highlighting his strong performance under pressure.

Nick Castellanos

Nick Castellanos made his MLB debut with the Detroit Tigers in 2013, where he spent the first 7 seasons of his career. In Detroit, he developed into a reliable source of power and run production.

In 2019, Castellanos was traded to the Chicago Cubs, where he had a strong finish to the season, hitting .321 with 16 home runs in just 51 games. Following this stint with the Cubs, he’s continued on to the Reds and now the Phillies and continues to improve as his career progresses.

Up to this point, he has been awarded multiple accolades, including being named an All-Star twice and winning a Silver Slugger award.

Castellanos Key Stats

  • All-Star (Reds, Phillies)
  • Silver Slugger (Reds)
  • 100+ RBI Season (Tigers, Reds)

Lance Parrish

Lance Parrish was an impactful catcher who played in Major League Baseball from 1977 to 1995. Spending the bulk of his career with the Detroit Tigers, Parrish was instrumental in the team’s 1984 World Series championship.

His strength at the plate resulted in 324 career home runs and over 1000 RBIs (114 with the Tigers in 1983).

Known for his defensive prowess as much as his offensive capabilities, Parrish earned three Gold Gloves (Tigers) for his excellent work behind the plate. He also earned eight All-Star selections (Tigers, Phillies, Angels), further highlighting his balanced skill set.

Matt Stairs

Matt Stairs had a lengthy Major League career that spanned from 1992 to 2011, during which he played for 12 different teams, essentially making him an Immaculate Grid Hall-of-Famer.

Known for his power-hitting abilities, primarily as a pinch-hitter, he hit 265 home runs over his career and holds the record for the most pinch-hit home runs in MLB history with 23. Stairs had a career batting average of .262 with an OPS of .832, and recorded 899 RBIs.

Notably, in the 2008 postseason with the Philadelphia Phillies, he hit one of the most famous home runs in Phillies history, helping the team move onto the World Series that year.

Randy Wolf

Randy Wolf spent his career with several teams, but most of us probably remember him as a Phillie where he spent 8 seasons. What makes him a great play here* is that very few probably remember the last season of his career when he played in 8 games with the Tigers in 2015.

Wolf was a steady presence on the mound, winning over 130 games and striking out more than 1,700 batters in his career. His best season came in 2003 when he won 16 games with the Phillies and earned his only All-Star appearance.

*I’ve used Randy Wolf in a Phillies / Cubs square before and scored a 0.1% rarity score.
