Average Weight of NFL Offensive Linemen (2024)
In the NFL, where every pound can make a difference in the battle at the line of scrimmage, the offensive linemen stand as the formidable foundation of every play. These athletes, often unsung heroes of the gridiron, combine size and strength to protect their quarterbacks and pave the way for running backs.
But just how much do these titans of the turf weigh?
To answer this, we’ve taken a comprehensive look at nearly 300 offensive linemen from the Week 1 rosters of the 2023 NFL season. This detailed analysis aims to determine the average weight of these crucial players, along with the heaviest and lightest players at the position.
NFL OL Average Weight
The average weight of an NFL Offensive Lineman in 2023 is 315 pounds.
However, the overall average doesn’t always give a clear picture. Especially when you consider that offensive linemen range in weight from the lightest guy at 280 all the way up to 380 pounds!
So, in an effort to give you an even better idea of where NFL Offensive Linemen weigh in, we broke the position down into 10-pound increments and tallied up how many players fell into each section.
Offensive Linemen Weight Scale
Weight Range | Number of Players |
---|---|
280 – 289 | 4 |
290 – 299 | 11 |
300 – 309 | 83 |
310 – 319 | 100 |
320 – 329 | 61 |
330 – 339 | 23 |
340 – 349 | 3 |
350 – 359 | 1 |
360 – 369 | 2 |
370 – 379 | 4 |
380 – 389 | 1 |
By breaking the numbers down like this we can see that in addition to 315 being the average weight for an OL, 244 out of 293 (83%) offensive tackles fall in a relatively tight window from 300 to 329.
In fact, the manner in which the number skyrockets from only eleven guys in the 290s to 100 just over 300 pounds makes me wonder how many guys have a minimum weight of 300 written into their contract.

The weight range of these athletes, spanning from a robust 280 pounds to a staggering 380 pounds, illustrates the diversity and adaptability required in the offensive line.
Of particular note is the fact that 8 of the 10 heaviest offensive linemen are tackles (They are also most of the tallest linemen as well).
