Average Weight of NFL Wide Receivers (2024)

In the NFL, wide receivers are often celebrated for their speed and agility. But there’s another aspect of these athletes that’s just as crucial to their on-field success—their weight.

As we sprint into 2023, it’s time to weigh in on the average weight of NFL wide receivers and how it impacts their performance and the overall game strategy.

For this deep dive, I examined the heights and weights of almost 200 wide receivers on opening-day rosters for the 2023 season. Get ready to look at NFL wide receivers from a whole new perspective!

NFL WR Avg Weight

The average weight of an NFL wide receiver in 2023 is 213 pounds.

However, the overall average doesn’t always give a clear picture. Especially when you consider that wide receivers range in weight from the lightest guy at 155 all the way up to 238 pounds!

So, in an effort to give you an even better idea of where NFL Wide Receivers weigh in, we broke the position down into 10-pound increments and tallied up how many players fell into each section.

Wide Receiver Weight Scale

Weight RangeNumber of Players
150 – 1592
160 – 1694
170 – 1797
180 – 18930
190 – 19939
200 – 20952
210 – 21937
220 – 22913
230 – 2393

By breaking the numbers down like this we can see that while the overall range may be big (155 to 238 pounds), the actual range that the large majority of players (85%) fall into is a smaller window from 180 to 219 pounds.

This also makes you realize that even know most fans probably think of wide receivers as being “small”, it’s only because they’re standing next to some of the largest humans walking the planet!

When combined with an average height of over 6’0″, most wide receivers would be one of the largest people in almost any other social setting – just not on a football field!
